Dear Friends of Orvis Peabody,
It’s already that time to start planning for our 2014 Fly-Fishing 101 and 201 classes! This program has introduced tens of thousands of students to the great sport of fly-fishing over the past 4 years, and has created more conservation-minded outdoor enthusiasts. We are looking for patient and friendly local volunteers that can help us here at Orvis Peabody at the Northshore Mall from 8am-10am on each date below. Here is a brief synopsis of the classes:
FLY-FISHING 101: The basics! This 2-hour session will begin with an hour dedicated to an outdoor casting clinic covering basic pick-up and lay-down, line control and accuracy, all with Orvis gear! The second hour will offer an in-store classroom discussion of rigging, knots, fly-selection, equipment, and how to go catch fish on the fly today. We will also hand out coupons and promotions, as well as a free Trout Unlimited membership, so it’s easy for these new enthusiasts to get started with great gear at approachable pricing.
FLY-FISHING 201: For 101 grads, we offer a 2-hour class on local water (locations TBD) where we refresh beginner casting principles, teach about rigging and presenting nymphs, streamers and dries, all while trying to catch fish! Beginners will feel what it’s like to effectively hook, play and land fish, and become local self-reliant fly anglers.
We are looking for 3 volunteers on each of the dates below, and all times again are 8am-10am. We are offering a same-day in-store 30% discount to all 1-2 class volunteers, a 40% same-day discount for 3-5 class volunteers and a 50% same-day discount for 6+ class volunteers as a sincere thank you for helping to promote and grow our New England fly-fishing culture and industry.
